When I started getting serious about hiking, I needed to stock up on some gear. The only problem- it’s expensive.
I’ve never been one to take things slowly. My move to Auckland has been no different. I mean, no sense in wasting time.
I started (really) hiking about a year ago. And I have now completed 25 different hikes in the area and logged over 150 miles.
We were supposed to be going on a full day hike that included sunshine, the lake, a big group of friends and a few beers. But of course, plans change and people get busy and I get injured. Stupid ankle.
When I told my friends I wanted to do an Olympic Peninsula day trip, they quickly agreed. What they didn’t realize was that they were going to get a 5am Saturday morning wakeup call for it. Good thing they love me.
Basically, I started hiking solo because I wanted to get into hiking and my friends were either too busy (we have totally different schedules) or they were just uninterested. But it was something I wanted to do, so screw everyone else.
I had been wanting to head to Cherry Creek Falls for quite a while, but I had read some not-so-great reviews about the conditions. They were completely wrong.
